International assignments

With increasing personal and financial mobility legal issues involving several countries are becoming more commonplace, and an increasing proportion of our assignments involves international matters. Virtually all countries have their own law within our areas of practice. This means that in international cases questions arise both as to which country’s law should apply in various respects and as to what such laws provide.

With our extensive experience we are pleased to regularly undertake assignments of an international nature and are engaged both directly by clients with international family and/or property issues as well as by foreign law offices and other businesses and organisations around the world. This often involves countries that have large numbers of immigrant Swedes, such as England, Spain and various states in the USA, but we have also had assignments related to other countries, such as Norway, Portugal and Luxembourg, to name but a few.

Our international assignments include both financial issues relating to inheritance, testaments and divorce as matters concerning child custody, residence and access.

The International Comparative Legal Guide is a series of publications providing information on the legal systems of different countries within different practice areas. We have on several occasions contributed with chapters on Swedish laws and regulations within our practice areas.

Torgny Lebenberg and Peder Lundgren have written about Swedish private law, e.g. pre-entry tax planning, succession planning, trusts and foundations and tax treaties in The International Comparative Legal Guide to Private Client 2019.
